MALAYSIA’S 1ST PRIME MINISTER VERSUS 4TH PRIME MINISTER – FINAL PART

Last week, I compared Malaysia with Singapore from multiple aspects - public administration, education, socio-economic policies and economics. In all these areas, Malaysia today comes far short of present-day Singapore. In this final part, we will reproduce some other comparisons that we have made in the past and in the process once and for all get rid of many wrong facts and perceptions about Malaysia's 4^th/7^th prime minister.

[1] Malaysia's average annual GDP growth from 1982 to 2003 under Malaysia's 4^th prime minister is actually much lower than the GDP growth achieved from 1961 to 1981 (figure 1). A shocking fact that few Malaysians are aware of.

[2]. Malaysia's GDP per capita grew less than Thailand, Taiwan, and South Korea from 1982 to 2003 (figure 2), and way below that of Singapore. There was no economic miracle for Malaysia under Malaysia's 4^th prime minister. He inherited an economic miracle and then destroyed it.
